Project highlights

inCitu had a bold mission: make the future of cities visible before construction starts. The idea was to turn complex zoning plans and urban data into an immersive AR experience, letting residents “walk through” future projects and leave feedback right on the streets of their neighborhoods. WEB24 partnered on development — building backend pipelines, data integrations, and scalable infrastructure that made large-scale AR urban planning possible. Together we helped inCitu turn complex blueprints into a tool for open, community-driven change.

Challenge

Urban development has historically been opaque. Residents were given PDFs and zoning rules that were hard to interpret, and authorities struggled to communicate changes effectively. Developers often faced resistance rooted in uncertainty and lack of trust. inCitu needed a way to:

• Visualize urban projects in real time with AR on mobile devices
• Integrate heterogeneous datasets (GIS, zoning, transit, housing) into one platform
• Enable community participation with accessible feedback tools
• Scale quickly across cities while keeping accuracy and transparency

Our approach

WEB24 worked with inCitu’s cross-functional teams to build a reliable data-backed AR platform. Our role focused on backend development, data engineering, and keeping the system scalable as usage grew.

Impact

The inCitu platform became more than a visualization tool — it grew into a movement for transparent urban planning. Results:

• More than 5,000 urban projects visualized in AR
• More than 250,000 residents explored future projects in their neighborhoods
• More than 1 million people benefited from accessible, transparent planning
• Supported major projects in Buffalo (Ralph Wilson Park), Columbus (COTA transit), and the Bronx (Wakefield Yards)

Residents could finally “see” change before it happened, while planners and developers gained clarity, trust, and smoother collaboration.
